c = ( 18a + 19b ) / 37
There are 37 students in the class (18 boys, 19 girls), and the total points received are 18a (18 times the average score a for boys) plus 19b (19 times the average score b for girls).
So to determine c, the entire class average, you take all the scores together and divide by the number of students. Therefore:
c = (18a+19b) ÷ 37

c = (a + b) / 2
This is the ONLY correct answer!
a is already represents the average for boys, b already represents the average for girls. The average of both represents the average of the class.

(A+B) divided by 2 = C
or/=
(A+B)/2=C
(the number of classmates doesn't matter because they are already figured for with "A" and "B" so the sum of two averages divided by two, will give you the average of the whole class.)
