i get the story and the symbolism but i need help with the literature. why is the literature necessary for it's time period? the 1900's.

It was neccesary because in that time women really needed a sense of companionship in that time. Many of them felt isolated from the world, because they lived in a partriarh society in that time. They were treated cruely because men looked down at them. It was necessary to have someone speak up, about what the effects of being treated this way were. That's why many women were glad she wrote this story. Because now people lok back and recognize that the way woman were treated was unjust.
