The Heritage Foundation proves that Charlie Rangel is wrong:

"The poor are enlisting at demonstrably lower rates since 9/11. Specifically, the percentage of recruits from the poorest one-fifth of American neighborhoods declined from 18% in 1999 to 13.7% in 2005. The reverse is true for recruits from the wealthiest one-fifth of neighborhoods. They are now overrepresented, accounting for 22.8% of all recruits."

"Household Income of Recruits -- We found that recruits tend to come from middle-class areas, with disproportionately fewer from low-income areas. Overall, the income distribution of military enlistees is more similar to than different from the income distribution of the general population."

I think there will be major widespread opposition to the reinstatement of the draft. Charles Rangel needs to hang this idea up, because he is signing his own career dissipation papers.

Oh its gonna happen. I could have told you this when the war was started.
You need to understand we are in this thing for the long haul and simply put we need more bodies. The draft is coming back whether you like it or not. That a Democrat introduced the idea is all the more amusing to me. All politicians are evil self serving servants of their corporate johns and will do as they are told if they want to remain in office. War is good for business, and to keep this war going we need more soldiers, so the draft is coming get ready for it.
We are stuck in Iraq until a stable pro US goverment is up and running, or until Congress cuts off the flow of money to pay for the war.

Rangel is a trouble maker. The President would never sign for a new draft. No one would want that! A volunteer military is the best military. People should have a choice in such matters!

I just read that article a few minutes ago and I think it's funny as hell. The liberals thought that voting out a bunch of excellent, hard-working politicians in favor of a bunch of useless Democrats would get us out of the war, and now the Democrats are trying to start up the draft -- hilarious!! I say to the Democrats, "Keep up the good work, your constituancy still thinks they love you!"

It appears his intention is to SCARE some people, and I can only assume they know who they are, into thinking that their little boy or girl, might be drafted(,thus hoping for a more likely end to the war in Iraq.)...Heaven's sakes.....We couldn't have that.....
