There are certainly many species of animals that are known to be very playful. Dolphins are known for their playful nature as are many Primates. As with all animal behaviour one must be careful not to anthropomorphize, as what we judge to play can actually be a totally different behaviour for that animal. The only animals that can put a solid number on their play hours are humans and we play more than any wild animal out there.

In my opinion, as much as they can. They don't perceive any limitations like humans do. I have four wonderful cats; two are kittens a little over 3 l/2 months old. They literally tire me out just by watching them play, play, play. It looks like "play-fighting". Sooo cute! Finally when they've had "enough", they lay out stretched, yawned and sleeping. That's when I get a chance to rest. I think dogs and other animals play a lot, too. It's their form of exercise and fun.

When an animal is young, it seems to play for hours and hours. Especially, puppies, they like to play all the time.

All baby mammals play. It seems to be an inborn instict. it not only hones their reflexes, but encourages skills they need later to survive. Animals that do not play are critters like lizards or insects that are pretty much born with all they need to start life.

I think that depends on their age. Just like humans play less as they mature.
