There is a big gathering of my friends this afternoon, and there will be drinking. I don't plan to drink of course. My good good friend said she wanted to watch him and is excited about it. I am breastfeeding and have plenty of milk pumped and he drinks from the bottle and boob regularly, so that's not a problem. I will only be 2 blocks away. Is this right? Or just really selfish?

EDIT: My friend is very good with babies and has spent a lot of time with my son, so I am not worried about her ability to take care of him.

don't millions of women leave 6 to 8 week old babies with daycare or a nanny for 10 hours a day after her maternity leave is over? Personally I have never had a baby sitter or used daycare and I dont think grandma helping out qualifies as a sitter.

Go and have a good time. I gaurantee you will be calling the sitter every half hour....

Take a break. Its totally fine. My son was 6 weeks the first time I left him with a sitter. He was absolutley fine, and the few hours off did me a world of good.

Your son sounds well adjusted, fed and fine. Leaving him with a good good friend is even better than a sitter you dont know!

It's completely okay .. you need to have time for yourself too. If it's only just a couple of blocks away and you start feeling uncomfortable you can just walk over and check on him.
What you are going through is separation anxiety which is perfectly normal for a new mom.. Go have some fun..

A 5 month previous that's defenately too early to circulate away it with the babysitter. besides the undeniable fact that, in time of desire, you may furnish money on your loved ones. no person can choose you for an action which you such as you probably did no longer could do. My son is likewise at a house day care and he went there while he became into 10 weeks previous (precise after the photos). My husband had slipped and fall at his artwork and had stretched 3 ligaments from his left knee while the infant became into basically with 4 months...terrible difficulty to be in. that's early to circulate away the infant there, besides the undeniable fact that, in case you will do it, make certain that the toddlers around there have had their photos suitable (needed)! Breastfeeding became into additionally a large difficulty for me. I DID IT!!! easily i'm nonetheless doing it, you may purchase a digital breastpump (Lansinoh is the terrific inexpensive twin pump). besides the undeniable fact that, if that's no longer available, then you certainly could as nicely circulate with the mannual one. until now introducing solids, i might pump 3 sessions, one until now I left the domicile (7:50), artwork (10:30) and artwork (1pm). I pump greater effective than i easily desire. do no longer provide bottle in case you're with the infant, because of the fact if he initiate prefering the bottle, he might circulate away your breast. try your terrific to no longer use the washing room as that's a touch nasty place to pump....human beings's poop and infant nutrition do no longer circulate mutually...yuck...I completely trust you... I desire the very terrific!!!

As long as you can trust your friend and if it's only for a few hours then go for it!! You've no idea how much you need a break now and then so take the opportunities when they come up! It's the only time you feel yourself again instead of being 'mum'!

Why shouldn't mommy have a nice afternoon out? I think it's wonderful and you deserve to have a few hours to yourself. Go ahead and leave him with a sitter and have a great time at your gathering :-)

For getting out of the house a couple of hours...nah. I wouldn't leave too long, though.
