4x-y=5
2x+y=-2

eliminate Y by adding the equations
4x - y= 5
+ 2x+y=-2
------------------
= 6x +0= 3
= 6x=3

divide both sides by 6
x=3/6

simplify
= x=1/2

substitute x back into the first equation
4x-y=5
x=1/2
------------
4(1/2)-y=5

solve
2 -y = 5
-5 +y -5+y
-----------------------
-3 +0 =0+y

simplify
-3 =y
1/2=x (from before)

ANSWER
x=1/2 or .5
y=-3
in coordinate form- (.5,-3)

4x-y=5
-2(2x+y=-2 )

-4x - 2y = 4
4x - y = 5
-3y = 9
y = -3
plug y back into the first equation
4x - (-3) = 5
4x + 3 = 5
4x = 2
x = 1/2

ANSWER
x = 1/2
y = -3

Add the second equation to the first - the "y's" cancel - and you get 3.4x = 3. Divide both sides by 3.4, and x = 0.0882... or in fraction form (multiply top and bottom by 5) x = 15/17.

4x-y=5 ..........(1)
2x+y=-2........ (2)

fom (1),y=4x-5...(3)

substitute into (2)

2x+4x-5=-2
>>>> 6x=3
>>>>>x=1/2

substitute into (3)
y=4*1/2-5= -3

therefore, x=1/2,y= -3

i hope that this helps

2x+ y = 2
and 1.4x-y=5
Add them together and you get 3.4x -y+y = 7

ie - 3.4x = 7
so x = 7/3.4
Is that correct?
