Completely safe as long as you get it from the manufacturer. Dont get it from a website that you dont know.

No such thing as too much hardware. If you can physically attach something, it is supported. The ONLY exception is if your power supply can handle the load. If you have a fairly new computer, you are fine. A camera USB interface is NOTHING!

Yea its safe. And no, your hard drive wont crash just by adding hardware to your syste,. If that were true, then my hard drives would be crashing everyweek. Besides...hardware has nothing to do with your hard drive, Maybe you meant to say software. If you clugged your hard drive and you have no space on it, then yeah its going to crash because a lack of space. But just because you install a dig cam software does not mean that your machine will go down and die.
