Two factors: 1) social and 2) health.
1) Depends who you are.
If you are a parent or have a partner with whom you live, more than an hour an evening is probably not cool, unless you're playing with them.
On the other hand, if you're a kid and it's a weeknight and you just can't be bothered to go out, a few hours is cool. Don't let gaming stand in the way of friendship, however. And online relationships are inherently inferior.
2) In terms of health, I'm not a doctor but I would say that playing games late into the night is not good for you. As is playing games and not exercising. The one does not exclude the other, though.
Frankly, I love playing games and always will (I'm 19, almost 20) but I try not to let it take over my life. There have been days when I've played for up to 6 hours (though not recently), at the end of which I normally feel pretty shitty. Most of the time it's 1 or 2 hours. It also depends on the game. When a new Zelda comes out, you're going to be spending a lot of time playing it for about 2/3 weeks, but this will tail off after you finish it. I don't play games like WoW because there is no forseeable end, no real reward, and it consumes your life.

from 12-24 hours... if you play from the hours and on... then there is a bad chance you will be addicted... there are two differences to just playing games and being addicted... One: Playing Videogames is when you play for a certain amount of hours... set it down go outside and interact with people (ehem, other than online, like interacting in person).... Where as Two: Addiction to Videogames is where you play it so much you can't stop leading to some baaaad after effects... when you DO end up stopping your in such bad shape you are either A: Brain is fried and can't stop thinking about the game or B: You get anxious because you aren't playing
Please when playing games play it for a while and then set it down, go rest for around 15-20 minutes and then start playing again... One time I played a game for around.. Let's say two days straight and now I have to use glasses to read! Well hope this helped...
enjoy

Playing all day, everyday is not good. I play at least an hour or 2 everyday, but usually not much more than that.
Unless I'm playing battlefield 2 or counter strike, where it's changes in 4 or 5 hours. But I don't do that very often.

25 hours, and I hope you get the joke. Anyway, I don't really have a limit, I don't EVER purely play a video game, I always multitask with it which I'm doing right now. Health-wise, if you're getting enough exercise, then I don't see a problem.
