The Wii is Nintendo's bid in the latest (seventh) generation of computer gaming console systems.
The Wii lacks in processing power and graphics, but this translates in a much more affordable price and is being marketed to a much broader base of people. Nintendo is known for it's innovativeness and the brand-loyalty of it's customers.
The most obvious difference is the control system. The main control component is more akin to a Television remote with a trigger underneth. Also included is the 'nunchuk' attachment, which connected to the remote via a thin cord and is meant for use in the other, free hand. The nunchuk attachment has a thumb control stick on top and two trigger buttons on the 'nose' for use with the pointer and middle fingers.
Both of their motions are captures by a thin strip placed above or below the screen and monitors their movement in three dimentions. This translates to action in game. For example a wrist flick might translate into a character swinging a sword or alternately for shooting games you might aim your weapon by pointing the remote at the screen, rather than tilting a joystick.
