Make your equation so all the numbers are on one side of the = sign, and all the variables on the other. Make sure you do the same to both sides:

7x + 1 -1 = 5x +9 -1 added -1 to each side, then simplify>>>
7x +0 = 5x +8
7x -5x = 5x +8 -5x added -5x to each side and simplify>>>
2x = 0x +8 = 8 >>>
2x = 8 Now divide both sides of the equation by 2 to get 1x>>>
2x/2=8/2 >>>>
x=4

subtract 5x from both sides
2x + 1 = 9
subtract 1 from both sides
2x = 9 - 1 = 8
divide both sides by 2
x = 8/4 = 2

x=4,
7x+1=5x+9 ; subtract 1 from both sides so the new equation is 7x=5x+8 ; then subtract 5x from both sides so it is now
2x=8 ; then just divide both sides by 2 and you got your answer! easy really.

7x +1 = 5x +9
7x +1 -1 = 5x +9 -1
7x = 5x +8
7x -5x = 5x -5x +8
2x = +8
2x = 8
2x / 2 = 8 / 2 <2x divide by 2 = 8 divide by 2>
x = 4
