I'm guessing it was because of a dispute between the USA and Spain. Probably over territory!

IT WAS PROB DUE TO SAME NAVAL GUY SMOKING WHERE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN. ANYWAY THE SHIP BLEW UP--SPAIN GOT THE BLAME-WAR BROKE OUT AND SO FORTH..
