8(x+4)² = 9
(x+4)² = 9/8
x+4 = ±√(9)/√8
x+4 = ±3/√8
x+4 = ±(3√2)/4
x = -4 ± (3/4)√2

so no, you're a little mixed up on simplifying the radical.

a/√b = (a/b)√b, or simply 1/√b = b/√b

x=-4+3/4*2^(1/2) or -4-3/4*2^(1/2)
