Many people, in my opinion, greatly overdo outdoor or outer decorations
It's a bit like what you wear. First, you satisfy yourself; then you worry about what other people might think of it.
My favorite decorating trick is something we still do: long wreaths all along the balcony of the high rise we try to live in, having simple lights all along them and a small separate tabletop decorated Xmas tree behind them.
We turn these long strings on at nights, and also other people can see them all over the neighborhood, without needing dark glasses to survive the excessive wattage.

I have done it all my life...
It has been a tradition of my family since I can remember and there are pictures that the tradition has been in the family for many years. We always have our thanksgiving dinner and the next day we all use to get together and decorate inside & outside the house and also our christmas tree.
This year I moved to an apartment I'm still decorating my new apt. inside and also decorating my bay window from the inside as well as putting up my tree there, so it can be seen from the street. I think it will be great looking.

Most of them are tacky and an eyesore. A big waste of electricity too. I don't think Jesus wants to see people waste money on tacky decorations to celebrate his birth. Better give the money away to someone in need. If you must decorate the outside of your house, do it tastefully with nothing OTT. Your neighbour will thank you for this.

I do not like them as they look OTT and I have seen many OTT around my area since the beginig of November!
So NO I am not planning any and yes I think they are tacky.
I am decorating my living room stripped all the wallpaper off today and I am making it all warm and cosy for christmas. I have a huge fibre optic tree and she as it is a femine tree will be very pretty and in silver and pail blue we also have a "fat" fairy much loved and treasured to go on top.

Yes, my neighbours.
8 years ago when we moved here, only one house was decorated. It was quirky and fun, and it signalled the arrival of Christmas when the illumiinated santa and sleigh went up on the roof.
But now nearly everybody does it (I'm holding out for as long as I can...), and now that it really isn't quirky and individualistic any more, it is starting to look strangely tacky and commonplace!
But they do usually have the decency to wait until December :-)

I have to.. even if i find it's ridiculous(at least at my street) The point of the Christmas is lost somewhere in the endless shopping with lots of requests "I want that for Christmas!" and decorations "I can do better!" So?!
But it's dark outside and getting from work using a shortcut to avoid horrible traffic suddenly can see all lights... it's magical!

we take the tree out ( ours is synthetic(that's pre-lit) and we don't beautify it for a whilst) interior the 2d week on November and set it up interior the dinning room, so we are able to take exhilaration in it via thanksgiving, then the day after thanksgiving we get each thing set up. We beautify the tree with embellishes, dangle the lights furniture up outdoors, beautify the complete complete residing house tremendously plenty! Merry Early Christmas! :)

Its kinda tacky but we do it anyway, we live on a main road so it gets boticed! Two strings of coloured lights and two deers on top of the garage roof. We also got a train last year, and a star we never got around to putting up. No doubt this year there will be more, its addictive!

On Christmas Eve and only Christmas Eve I remove all my clothes and climb onto the front wall of my house.
I instruct my wife to place a candle firmly up my anuus and I assume the position of the last turkey on the shelves of waitrose.
This is then lit and I sing loudly the first verse of silent night for the benefit of all my neighbours.
I haven't had any complaints about this and I don't think your suggestion of tackiness is remotely true.
