No. I was a legal secretary for years and loved it. A paralegal usually has a law degree but has so far taken their legal studies no further, or is in the process of doing so. Paralegals in my experience do a lot of donkey work like photocopying and making up trial bundles - (thank God for paralegals! I hated doing that!), drafting pleadings and other documents which secretaries don't have the expertise to do. You can be a career paralegal or it can be a step on the way to qualifying as a solicitor. But it definitely isn't the same as being a legal secretary. My job was to provide typing and admin support.

No, I use to be a paralegal and legal secretaries are usually great administrative support. But in small offices a paralegal may be required to do legal secretary duties. In big firms a paralegal is required to do the research and examine documents before its given to a legal secretary to carry out the changes the paralegal or attorney made before sending out the final document.
