I am doing a research paper on this topic. But all academic articles are just not making sense. Why can't they explain the situation in plain English? Someone who is familiar with the topic, help!!!

The world community began calling for the handover of Pol Pot, but in July 1997 the Khmer Rouge staged their own show trial, at which they sentenced Pol Pot to lifetime house arrest. The broadcasted trial gave the world its first glimpse of Pol Pot in nearly two decades—old, frail, and suffering from malaria.

Less than a year later, on April 15, 1998, Pol Pot died, reportedly of a heart attack.

It would appear that with the death of Pol Pot , his followeres wer assimilated back into society except for Ta Mok , who will stand trial for all the sins and crimes committed by the whole.

Pol Pot died in 15 April 1998. Pol Pot nor any his followers were ever held accountable, the weight of their crimes has fallen on the last of the Khmer Rouge leaders —General Ta Mok, who was captured on March 6, 1999. Although Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has for years allowed many of the highest-ranking Khmer Rouge officials rejoin Cambodian society without as much as a slap on the wrist, it is clear he plans to exploit Ta Mok as a scapegoat, pinning the atrocities of an entire regime on him.

Hun Sen will thereby short-circuit any plans for a full Nuremberg-style accounting of war crimes.

I'm here for you!

Pol Pot was educated in France. He took the ideas of Rousseau, Jean-Jacques (1712-1788) seriously, particularly the Nobel Savage stuff. He instituted it, slaughtering 1/2 the population. Ah France.

Pot croaked a few years back, probably w/o enough pain.

Why the impunity? I can guess:
The west has degenerated into an unsure state, not certain of any morality, and is therefore paralyzed to attack any anti-life ideology w/o some form of “world community” buy-in.

The US is/was snake-bitten on Vietnam, and – again – paralyzed to act.
