*Usually* it's the black molds that you have to worry about being toxic.

Like the previous poster mentioned, you can clean it with a bleech solution.

Most important here here is discovering where the mold is coming from. You obviously have something compromised here, as there wouldn't be mold if there wasn't something for them to eat. Chances are you have a water leak, bad foundation, yada yada yada.

Basically without more details I can't speculate, but you're a renter and this is your landlords problem. Just the fact that there is mold growing makes this a place that is unsafe for you to live in. Not sure what state you are in, but regardless they should be obligated to take care of this problem. That and, if they are intelligent on any level they'll want to nip this problem in the bud before it becomes a health hazard, dry rot sets in, etc.

Do not let this issue go, your landlord has a responsibility here.

i have had this mold before mainly down in the basement. the mold can cause some serious allergies and also bronchitis. it is sometimes very airborne. i have used a spray bleach on it to kill the mold. just keep repeating this. if you have a damp basement or area another good idea to keep this kind of mold down is to invest in a dehumidifier. and it is also a good idea to let your landlord know.
