Because human is an animal who did not evolve a lot since 2000 years and keep repeating the same mistake.
People are still ready to do war in order to gain or maintain power over others.
History should be learned not only to be proud of your nation but to learn about what mistake not to do.
Politics likes to write history, they usually forget to read it...

The main reason, is because History Repeats Itself. Just look at the mess of this world, did we not learn during the Second World War, Vietnam,The Gulf War, but Alas - we never learn. The best advice I can give you is to pay attention to your Own history, as You travel through your life, and any missed steps you take in life, try Very Hard to Learn from them and Not to Repeat Them. At least we should learn from our own personal history, don't you think?Life would be a hell of a lot easier.

Every 20 or 50 years the same problems develop. Only the technology that deals with them changes.
