i dont want sports games like football, basketball or rugby type games as i find them boring.
im ok with fighting games or racing games

Any need for speed games and also the dancing stage games are great to play with two people

I'll point out first that PS2 is proberly the worst console for multiplayer games and aren't sports ones. They're better for single player games.
Anyway though, I like the 2-player on Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven, Dynasty Warriors 2, 3 and 4 and Dancing Stage Fusion if you want to spend a lot to pay for metal pads.

Singstar, Guitar Hero (one or two), GRAN TURISMO (realistic racing game), Soul Calibur (two or three, three's the best really imo), Super Monkey Ball
Fun racing games, I'd go Burnout 2 (not 3, 2 - I prefer it's style), they can be hilariously tense.

EDIT: Just seen dynasty warriors, I'd DEFINITELY go with that, that's incredible 2 player

SSX on Tour - it's a snowboarding game. I'm not fond of sports games either, but this I LOVE. (My mum plays it too.) The other SSX games like "Tricky" are also good and pretty cheap nowadays.
(For the girl in me, I like SSX on Tour as you can create your own characters and even change their clothes, hairstyle and make up!)
