Recently I received a job offer that is tempting me to switch from my current position. What would you do in my situation?

Job #1: I work about 40-45 hrs a week, with Sat.-Sun off, though occassionally I'm called in for weekends. I watch a 4y/o boy, and 2y/o girl. The family just moved from out west to the midwest. The mother has just decided to get a divorce from the father, and plans on moving to their old location within 6mo. I won't be moving with them so I'll have to find another job then. I get paid $1600 a month, which somehwat jips me when the month has more than 4 weeks. I have full access to their house: food, utilities, pc and internet. I have a membership through them for museums and ymca. They pay for me to take the kids on fieldtrips, etc. Cons: the tension between the parents, child behavior problems, lack of communication and consistency, job ending.

Job #2: I'd be a companion for a woman with dementia. She is in great shape and can get around for herself. She doesn't need help with personal care other than dressing. She is fully aware and alert except with trouble speaking, but she understands you perfectly. I'd do the normal household chores. I'd have my own "cottage" and $450 per/week. The family is very earth concious and holisticly minded. Pros: more money, no behavior problems to worry about, networking, close to a college that teaches the field I want to go in to as well as their family living in a natural health/earth way; which is what I want to study. Cons: 3.5 hrs away from my family- if something happened I couldn't be there right away and I am the primary caretaker, only home two days a week.

What is your current position? Also, the tension between the parents may be something you want to avoid. Also, knowing that the job is ending should definitely tell you to stay where you are. Having a low-paying job is better than no job at all! If you don't like your current position, take a moment to re-evaluate your skills, and then see if there is a position available that you may be better suited for.

That is a matter of personal choice, but looking at the given situation you have it pretty good with all that you have,so personally I would give it some serious thought. There are few jobs out there that will allow freedoms like the ones you currently have. Good luck!

Not too much descriptin of job 2......I would take the other job...You will age doing that job and when you are no longer needed you will not have gained any marketable skills nor anything credibel or useful for a resume..... Plus you will get beat out by younger more experieced kids...Get a real job...

Well, decide which job you are more likely to succeed at. it's not all about the money. pick the job that you will enjoy most, and you will have smoothe work days. if you really need the money, pick the job that pays most.
