I did my bike license when i was 17 i also did my car lisence along with C1 as i work for the ambulance service i have to drive on blue lights. I am now 20 and have never owned a car. i have never felt that not having a bike has ever really been inconvenient i mean trying to get all u need from tesco can be a nightmare. but in and around london where i work the bike is fantastic it cuts 45 mins of a journey sumtimes. cbr 125 is an ok choice but look around there are plenty of really decent 125 bikes out there. Yam dt125r more of a offroad style bike but fantastic. look aorund

Whatever you do do not buy a 125 4 stroke ie cbr 125 they r to slooooow.... get a 2 stroke, My personal choice would be a dt125 as i have had 2 before and they have never let me down,If you do go for the DT get some security as its a fav for the thievin litle tw@ts out there ;),Cheap insurance, reliable, fast and cheap to run
Nsr 125 would be next choice. Do not buy the cheap replicas off ebay as they are total crap and will cause you nothing but trouble ie hyosung skystar etc.
Aprilia 125''s r probably the fastest 125 out there, but beware because they tend to get really abused.
Personally i would get a bike because cars are far more expensive to run and the insurance usually costs more than the car.
Get a bike!

Do it,
Live it,
Love it.
Get good gear that has been recommended by other bikers,( not by "Super Value" "Great Bargain" glossy adverts) and do an advanced riding course when you pass your test. When you "trade up" to a bigger bike, do a track day school ( I did mine at Ron Haslams at Donington Park. Shat meself as he was my hero as a kid/Yoof!!!) to get the most out of your bike and out of yourself. It will honestly make your rides far more fun as well as safer.
Just look out for the myopic morons texting their mates whilst eating a big mac and changing the CD. This time of year is a bit of a ***** aswell. Low sun shining in drivers eyes along with wet leaves mixed with diesel can make for an interesting commute to work!!
As others have said, biking will make you a far better car driver (if you ever decide to drive) and it is something I have never ever regretted.
CBR125 'baby blade' is a great starter bike. Its a Honda so it will probably still be on the road long after I've gone!!!

Sounds like you know what you want to do and how to do it.
Motorcycles do add some convenience when it comes to traffic busting but they're not very practical, ie for carrying stuff.
But and this is a big but, they are great fun. I've been riding since I was 16 and not regretted it a bit. Just be sure to take care on the roads and ride sensibly.
The CBR is a popular choice too. And the new one looks hot with the new headlight.
Get one and have fun.

Everyone knows bikes are dangerous, my mum reminds me of this every time she sees mine but what i find is the majority of bikers are better car drivers and are more aware of whats going on around them so what I'm saying is you need to find yourself a good school and get it out of your head that your invincible, you can fall off and it will hurt, I've had bikes for years and love them to bits so if you get the bug nobody will stop you from getting one. The cbr is a good bike, its a 4 stroke and not as rev happy as say an rs125 2 stroke as far as i know. When you get it try to find someone with a bit of experience to go out with but not someone who's gonna try and make you look stupid and wind you up, you will probably get someone call you square tyres or something like that but take your time and things like cornering will come to you, if you go too fast and come off its gonna hurt you and your bike be patient, take care and enjoy it, it's great!

Most people who die on the roads are motorcyclists??????
Utter tosh!
Most people who cause bike accidents are in cars...
Thats more like it.
Do it, do it now and do it well. The route to getting a bike licence is going to get harder for younger people as the government stick their interfering sneck in.
I wasn't on the road till I was over 20 and wish i'd of started years before.
CBR125 is a top bit of kit, The young totty 'll like it, its a honda, it'll keep its value fairly well if looked after and its the start of the biking ladder.

I dont think motorcycles are a good idea at a age as young as 17. People tend to be more reckless on them, therefore more prone to accidents. I once had a cousin who died from having half his face ripped off in a motorcycle accident, and that's with a helmet.

Probably better off with a trail bike, better riding position for kicking it back up when you get it wrong and a wheel steps out,
CBR bodywork looks vulnerable as does liquid cooling, for 13 bhp.
