Go to your mycomputer icon on your desktop and right click, go to manage, and them go to system storage. Degrag your drive from there. Make sure you have a lot of time to let the computer run before you perform this function. I usually run this right before I head to bed so the computer performs the function overnight.

There is a defragment option under accessories- system tools. Open it it will do the defragmentation...! I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

go to my computer and right click on the hard drive icon and then click on properties and then on tools
you will then see 3 options use the top one "error checking"
click on check now and box will come up put a tick in both box's and click OK
