It is not the words, or their source, that matter but their understanding by the person using them. Today you have people quoting words of peace and brotherly love while inciting the followers to a "holy" war, for example. The books of the Bible suppose to teach us the golden rule--love your neighbour like yourself--but some people react to the Bible's words as if they were drinking whiskey--they get violent and abusive.

Some people will use the Bible in a very legalistic way. Quoting things out of context and using them to their own means. Jesus Himself came against the religious leaders for this very thing. A whiskey bottle may be wrong in the eyes of many as it will make a person assume that the owner of the bottle is an alcoholic. However, where as some have a reaction to alcohol that is very bad others may be able to cope in life or may be taking a little for medicinal purposes.

A bible used for the wrong reasons is worse than alcohol used for the right reasons.

That there are those who use the Scripture for evil and un-Christ-like purposes, whereas drinking, even to excess, by a man who is basically good, will not have the same bad consequences.
