Publishing editors receive hundreds upon hundreds of unsolicited manuscripts every year. In the industry, these manuscripts are called "slush." Every few weeks interns and temps will dig through the slush, read a little of each piece, and decide whether it's worthy of seeing an editor's desk. I wont make up statistics, but I'd guess that 99% of these never see an editor's desk. And of the other 1%, very few ever get the go ahead from the editor to be published.

Do not let this dissuade your daughter from continuing her work and being optimistic about it. Publisher's will review books solicited by legitimate literary agents. Here's a couple of sites you could look at to get started, as this is an area of the process that I am unfamiliar with:

http://www.writers.net/agents.html

http://www.writersmarket.com/

You can still try to send unsolicited manuscripts to publisher's and cross your fingers. I'd maybe check out mediabistro.com or publisherslunch.com to try and find mailing addresses for editors. Hope that helps.

It depends on the audience. If the book is written for children you may want to send a review copy to School Library Journal, Booklist, Hornbook. If the books are written for teens send a review copy to Voya, School Library Journal and Kliatt.
