Its a 1995 Rover 416sli automatic, but only has 17k on the clock and is in very good condition, but I think the gas mileage is low?

It depends on how you drive, and what type of driving you do (e.g. mostly motorway, or mostly town with heavy traffic).

I would say that 29mpg is on the low side of normal for that car, but not abnormal - I would expect about 32 for average use, maybe 35-40 on a very good day.

This information doesn't sound really right. A '95 Rover getting 29 miles/gallon? Wow, most Land Rovers get about 17 miles/gallon at the most on the highway.

Depends on how heavy your right foot is, and judging by that figure I'd say it was quite heavy. Should be somewhere in the region of 35-40 mpg for an engine / car that size and age.

Sounds about right for the age and after all...............it is a rover. Most new cars with a similar engine will do 50+ mpg.....I have smart car that does 75 mpg

Sounds like it's burning a rich mixture then, or your driving it at an average 99.8MPH!!! They normally were pretty good on fuel and should be returning that around town only, a combined should be nearly 40MPG and on a run it should get near 50MPG.

it all depends on your usual routes,( if you normally drive to work & its less than say 5 miles then its probly norml) wait till your going on a run for a couple of hundrd miles then work it out, but it is a big car for a 1.6! prob better off with bigger engine though.
