Is there any INEXPENSIVE way to be 100% protected from snakes. Sprays? Chaps? Wrap leather on my legs? What would you do to be safe and not worry about snakebites?

Watch your step! Seriously, that is a big thing to do is watch where you put each step, especially when hiking through thick jungle. Using a walking stick is a good idea. You also have to be aware of any snakes in trees or high spots they could be. Leather boots and thick clothing doesnt hurt either.

Wear thick clothing, especially on your pants. Always walk with a stick and move it around on the ground so you can sense where a snake is. Also, carry a first aid kit and some sprays. If you are hiking in an area with especially venomous snakes, I suggest you get some extra supplies and take some people along with you.

When and if you sit down on the ground, do NOT put your hands behind you and lean back without looking.
Most people are bitten on the fingers doing just that thing.

Stamp a lot so they know you are coming - they will try to get out of your way as they don't want to get trodden on.
