Me and my ex broke up 6 months ago and he told me that we should always be friends, but we have been best friends once before. One day last week, he saw me having a bad day and all of a sudden he asked me what was wrong. Does that mean he cares or just wants to be friends? He doesnt call me or email me or anything but only says a few simple words to me when we are at school. What could this mean?

It means exactly what he said, that he wants to be friends. That doesnt mean he wants to hang out with you though, he just wants to be on friendly terms.

He probably feels a little guilty but doesn't want to reconnect. Some men actually have a conscious. Also he may really like just as a friend and not want to take it further than that. He may be afraid to talk to you because you may get the wrong impression like you seem to be now. Men do not hold on to emotions like we do for the most part. There are a few but they move on quickly in general.

He is totally confused and not able to make a decision whether to be your friend or more than a best friend.
Asking "whats wrong" by a best friend doesn't make much sense, infact he cannot avoid himself of asking. It is clear that there is something missing from your side too. In total, he can neither leave you alone nor treat you as a best friend. Try to get what he wants from you.. Probably, this might bring some clarity/solution to your question.

It most likely means that he still has feelings for you, but not the kind you think. He cares about you and wants to be friends but at this point it does not sound like he is interested in an intimate relationship. If I were to guess I would say that he is trying to cut you off in a gentle way

I can understand where he's comming from. Happy people don't just take pills and flip out on the ones they care about. seems like he's going through something, he fell in love with you, and feels like you cheated on him. I think you could have prevented the situation with the hickies. If Sam was really a true friend, he would have taken no for an answer unless you were giggling when you said it and he didn't take you serious. If you were serious about it and said no but he didn't stop, don't be friends with him (this will show Chris that you're serious about him). You can't control anything Chris does. If he's going to call you mean names and ignore you...what can you do about that? nothing. he's mad. anger always comes from something deeper. pain. he's mad because he's hurt and he feels like you betrayed him. I suggest you sit down with him face to face so he can't hang up on you or log off and BE HONEST. If you got those hickies on purpose, don't lie about it. just say "We were on a break and I needed closure. I'm sorry. I realized it was a huge mistake when you weren't in my life anymore." If you are telling the truth tell him "You should believe me...I AM your girlfriend and I AM telling the truth. I wouldn't do that to you because I care about you as much as you care about me." If neither gets him to come around, move on. Ignore him completely. He'll stop wasting his time trying to hurt you as badly as you've hurt him if he thinks you could care less. Or he'll realize how much he cares about you and make an effort to try again. I hope this helps!

He did tell u that u 2 should always be friends. He does care about u that is obvious and wants to be friends. Email him once just to see how he is doing and see what happens then.

It means he still wants to be in your life, but be allowed to see other girls.......It means he may generally like you but have no chemistry with you. It could mean lots of things. Take your time. If you love him, then distance is the best thing for you..... If not be his friend....If he's a nice guy....

yes he cares...as a friend...at least at this point. just because he's a ex doesn't mean you guys are supposed to be inconsiderate of each others feelings...ask him if he wants to have lunch or something...as friends...to kinda feel him out better...
