2 and half hours if you are going in the morining at rush hour. I know its only an hours drive if there was no traffic, but its not like that. Leave at 7.00, might get there before 9
If M8 is a nightmare, go on the loch lomond road between Balloch and Stirling and you can join the M9 to Edinburgh for there...but be warned...eveything goes fine until your 11 miles from Edinburgh...then it grinds to a halt.
If poss and on the M9 take the north circular to the zoo and go through costophine to get to the centre - Hermiston gate is a nightmare.

depending on where u r in glasgow and which end u r going to in edinburgh - then probably from 1hour to 1 and 1/2 hours.

depending on time of day 45 mins to 1 hr if youre going detween 7.30-8.30am 4.30-6.00pm give youreself 1hr30 traffic will be a nightmare.
