Hold the button down and when it catches fire keeping hold the button down for a good 30 seconds

Without actually being there,it is difficult to tell--does the pilot stay lite and the main go out?Does the pilot go out also? Is the pilot flame blowing off of the sensor?--call your local fireplace co. and for a small fee their tech will look at it and solve the problem. At this time of the year,techs are real busy so be prepared to wait a few days for service.

are all the parts clean? Are you getting low on gas?
These are two main reasons it won't stay lit.

Sounds like a dodgy sensor. Get a qualified person to look at it before you use it again. Better safe than sorry!!!
