The Problem is that Your Hard disc doesnt seem up to accepting the other OS. At 4gb, and im assuming running 95 or sum variation, will not accept 98 or XP, not at 4gb. YOull Probably need to upgrade the HDD BEFORE you uprage the OS. But Once you change out the Drive, and Format the new Drive, it will accept the OS. Run the Install disc, it will ask you on the Set Up screen if you want to Upgrade or make a fresh install of the OS (Win98 , WinXP), ...run the fresh install option. Before you buy the HDD, go online and look up the Laptops Technical configuration, so you dont buy an incompatible drive, because for sum reason people often do that. but the DELL laptops are very good with their ease of upgrade..youll be fine.

You should not have a problem installing on that laptop unless there is a hardware problem with it. I have Win98SE on a IBM 560 that only has 233mhz and 72MB of RAM! (Not a screamer but good enough for web and homework!)

See a good tutorial here for step-by-step. I could tell you easily but this answer box would explode from all the text. (Plus it would be really, really boring)

Hi. You'll need to reformat the HDD first. Make sure you have anything you want backed up to CD or something. (Not a good choice for Win XP.)
