I am with you! I think it is absurd when people say that it is "because they are in a hurry!!!!!!!!!"
They can take the time to write " Have- A- Merry- love- Tom- Becky- Steve- Cosmo -and The Family. They can even take the time to write X and mas.....but they just might get writers cramp or be late for work if they write the word Christ.
Merry CHRISTmas to all! Let's keep Christ in Christmas and in all things. God Bless!

I say Christmas. But saying X mas was just a fad started up again in England in the late 1800's but it has been around for almost a thousand years.he use of the letter "X" to stand for Christ goes back to an anicent Greek tradition. "X" is actually the Greek letter "chi," which is the first letter of "Christos," the Greek word for Christ. Using our alphabet, the Greek word would look something like XPICTOC; in Greek the "R" was written like our "P" and the Greek "S" was often written like our "C." Thus, in early Christian writing and art, the letter "X" or the combination of "XP," the first two letters of the word "Christos," were used as an abbreviation to refer to Christ. Sometimes, the letters were combined into a monogram that looks like a single design.
The word "Christmas" can be traced to the 11th century; the shorter Xmas came into use about 300 years later and has been popular ever since. The X-shape is also symbolic of the cross, an early sign used by Christians.

Because He was never in it. Check out the origin of Christmas on the internet. Christmas is a holiday that the Catholic Church came up with to satisfy the people. December 25 is not the day Christ was born. God never told us to celebrate the birth of Jesus. He gave us Holy Days that we need to keep but don't.
I AM A BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN and my family and I do celebrate christmas but not as the birth of Christ to us it is a time to spend time with our family and friends. If you are offended because I have told you the truth I'm sorry. The Bible says the truth will set you free. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays Everyone.

The believer is the savor of death to the world. Deep inside, where there minds cannot discern, they who deny Christ know that they are damned for rejecting Christ. Today's person is more and more openly antagonistic toward Christ. Their minds do not comprehend it but deep inside, though it be hard to believe: they understand their own damnation.

Therefore, to answer your question, what is of Christ, honors Christ. What is not of Christ, belittles Christ.

On top of that, it's no mystery that Jews are immensely powerful in our society and Jews are offended at the message of Christ. Many people in business avoid "Christ" in Christmas because if you offend a Jew, you have an adversary that will hurt your bottom line. In a nutshell...believers need to unite and show deliberate unity one for another.

Even the earliest Christians used "x" as a symbol for Christ, so it isn't really taking the Christ out of Christmas. But of course you already know that the winter festival of Yule existed before Christianity and Christians just coopted it for their own holiday. So the season was here before Christ.

X has been a legitimate symbol for Christ for almost as long as Christianity has existed. It is the Greek for "Chi" and has been used for over 1000 years.

And for the person who said "if you are in Greece it's okay but etc. etc." I guess you don't use "Christ" either, since that is also the Greek name for Jesus.

i never understood this either. i celebrate Christmas and when I was younger, I used to put "x-mas" on cards, not realizing what it had meant. My Dad doesn't like saying that, I forgot why. There isn't a need to be in a rush when you are writing Christmas cards. Just write "Christmas". Maybe you should do research. I'm confused myself.

If you REALLY think Jesus is the reason for the season, try leaving the gifts out, and seeing how many people feel spiritual after that. My guess is that you'll get chewed out by anybody who thinks they have any right to do so.
