Maybe because most Americans are so Fat now that they see everyone around them as normal. How funny! In America we have different categories of being classified as fat, kind of like how the Eskimos have different names for snow. Weird huh?
You have your:
overweight/chubby/big boned person
Fat/Obese
Extreme Obese
Morbidly Obese (300 lbs and up)
This is so crazy!

I can only imagine that they are ashamed, wouldn't you be? It's pretty disgraceful that their obesity rate is so terribly high, but until they start to admit it, they're no where near combatting it. In fairness, there are many slim American's, obviously not everyone is fat! BUT, as a nation, yes, they are above average on the fat stake's, and they probably should start to admit it.
However, when the UK is often publicised as having the highest teen pregnancy rate, I get ashamed. My mum had me as a teen, but is so not the stereotypical teen mother, and I feel it's unfair that *all* teen mother's are now targetted in a negative way. So maybe the American's feel the same about being known as a fat nation.

When the average weight is 16 stone, you have to revise what fat is. If everyone around you is the average and you are the same then how can you be fat. On the BMI they are overweight, but in a persons mind fat and medically overweight are not the same thing. Rationising is a beautiful get out clause.

What do you consider fat? 50+ lbs over a healthy weight or 10 lbs? We do have obesity problems but I don't think it is like people let on...I mean, you go out side and you aren't only going to see fat people. Or maybe it just hasn't hit where I live yet....
Edit: Also, have you been reading lately? Apparently the rest of the world is catching up on the obesity levels, England following close behind us :-)

I deny being that America is obese.
Most people I see are in good health and some even skinny.
I see lots of slim children and healthy weighted kids around too. People are just saying that and getting footage and pictures of those who are overweight or obese. I know there are heavy people in the US but I believe there are just as many thin or average weighted people as there are fat or plump.
I weigh 134 lbs and 5'5 ft tall. some people might feel that's heavy, but lots of healthy grown women are around the same height and weight as me.

I'm an American and most Americans ARE fat and lazy!
Too much television, not enough exercise...too many processed foods.
I think most people try to deny it, hoping that by denying it, it won't be true?
Who knows, but as my grandfather said, "all Americans have fat a$$es!" (bless his poor skinny Irish heart)

im american and im not fat (55 kilo's) but there are lots of us who are, I think its all the laziness and driving instead of walking and eating all the prepared quick foods. but on the other side I now live in europe and have seen plenty of fat people here too, so it seems that the culture of fast food has crossed the pond quickly and seems like its here to stay/

well when there heart stops pumping, theyll soon no about it. its funny that the richest country in the world is also trhe unhealthiest. - well get americans on here abusing me of course, but sorry to say its true.
Problem with americans I find is thath they cannot face real facts, for example the have the highest crime in the west, highest poverty, highest obesity, most murders, rapes, child abuse cases.
guys face facts - right wing politics are flawed, we realised that so we hbooted thatcher out.
