I'd make sure it's clean, then make sure gas valve to it is turned on. May have one away from fireplace and one inside fireplace. Turn to pilot and hold button in while clicking igniter button. Hold pilot knob in for about 15 seconds and then turn to on. You prbably have a wall switch near the fireplace to turn it on. Do you have a blower? Should be automatic, to come on after fireplace heats up a bit. But it may have a variable switch for the blower speed.

John s is close -- BUT there are many different types of gas fireplaces and as many ways to operate them--As you just moved in--call your local fireplace co. and ask them to send out a service tech to inspect and set up your fp. they will make sure that it is operating safely and will instruct you on its use.--you can contact me at docsammon@yahoo.com--I will need the brand & type of fireplace .

Open valve on propane tank or gas line. Turn knob on fire place to pilot. Light pilot. Turn the knob to on. You are ready to go
