My childhood memories are so rich because they represented a time of innocence and pure energy and fun. I was able to go out and play games with my friends until dark. I would come in when my mother would yell from the back porch that it was time to come in. I would come in dirty from the day and would immediately have to jump into the bath to clean up for bedtime. My playtime would consist of riding my bike, playing freeze-tag, hide and seek, or the the multiple other games that we would play. Neighborhoods were safe and parents did not have to worry about there children and where they were. They knew that there children were okay, they knew that times were safe. Now, parents have to keep a eye on the kids to ensure that they do not get abducted, or become involved with someone that may be a bad influence. Not that this did not occur at the time of my youth but it was not as much of a concern as it is today.

Being a child is what I remember as being so wonderful, not having to worry about the responsibilities of an adult. Being able to run and play or to swing on a swing and pretend that I was flying higher and higher with out a care in the world. No bosses, No deadlines, No worrying how the bills are going to get paid, No in-laws, just being a child.

Lying down on my front lawn under a birch tree in the summertime. The sky was clear blue. Tiny breezes would ruffle the leaves in the tree and caress my cheek at the same time. The leaves were so beautiful, a plump green with dark green veins. It was so bright the sunlight would shine clear through the leaves, highlighting them to a yellow colour when exposed to the light in the wind.
I remember feeling very peaceful and very lucky.

One of my best memories was when I went to my uncle's house during the winter. It had snowed a week earlier, so there was ice everywhere. We decided to go to the beach, and it was absolutely amazing... There were chunks of ice everywhere along the shore, and my sister and I balanced ontop of them and began to walk across the beach, only stepping on the blocks of ice. This moment was special to me because I love winter, and it felt wonderful to have the ocean breeze blowing your hair and seagulls flying above you... You could also hear the water lapping at the shore, and my sister (who's seriously my best friend) and I spent the whole time talking and we laughed when we slipped, and marveled at the really huge ice pieces that were nearly 4 feet tall. It was beautiful =)

My grandparents owned/operated a dairy farm...since I was a city girl...I used to love going there! Grandma would take me over to the garden and we would walk and talk for hours. She showed me how to select the vegetables and berries, and we would pet the animals, etc. In the winter when I visited, she showed me how she and the ladies from her church did quilting, and we also played dominos and card games. Grandma didn't have a lot of material things...but she gave me 2 of the most precious "gifts" I've ever received...her love, and her time. She made a difference

Punching the crap out of the neighborhood kid comes to mind first .... man did that feel good at the time!
OK...seriously, I used to take hikes alone alot as a preteen into the woods behind our house, I used to love exploring through them and go farther and farther each day. I actually walked to the next town which was approx 8 miles away at one point. (had to run alot of the way back to make it before dark lol...) AND, gawd you just dredged up this memory...my friends and I used to walk through the storm drains under the streets, we got to know exactly where we would end up after awhile!

1. Playing baseball at the end of my street with the neighborhood kids...whoever showed up...played (nothing organized).
2. My mom had Tuesday off, and when I got home from school, she would have a snack and drink waiting for me. I still have a fondness for Tuesday, probably from that great memory.

I have a pretty deep voice for a girl and was self-conscious about it as a child. When I was 13, my cousin who was 24 at the time, told me I had a really sexy voice, like Lauren Bacall or some other famous actress. It changed the way I felt about myself and I always recall her fondly. It's amazing how words, good or bad, can stick with you years later.

Going fishing with my dad and my best friends. These moments were special to me because it was as if the world at that point stopped and nothing else mattered.

I did not have a good childhood. More bad memories than anything. That is why i am this way. Overly needy of love and attention. Thanks for stirring up my crappy thoughts!
