Britain went in debt after declaring "total war" on the French. And they taxed the colonist to get the money back. That lead to the Boston Tea Party. To punish the Bostons, Britian made the coercive acts also known as the Intolerable acts. And from there they made the first continental congress and then they tried to make a treaty with King George III, Called the Olive Branch Petition but King George III refused to look at it, and that led to the war! I hope this has helped alot!
