just go here http://www.pcservicecall.co.uk/Layout.aspx?CatID={ad69e70c-dcc7-48b5-86c5-b0980ea8a905}&ID={1d5da0f0-60f6-49fe-a9de-d3386432e315} and click on the type of laptop or notebook you have then find the sound or audio drivers and install no problems hassle free and no faffing about with control panel settings.

Have a look at your 'F' keys or function keys along the top of the keyboard. If there is a blue speaker symbol with a cross through it (poss. F6) then press and hold the function key then hit the relevant 'F' key. This should turn the sound back on.

go to sound through your control panel & then go to trouble shooting, go through the usual processes( easiest but time consuming). and if it still isnt working then there should be a link to windows, they will sort you out!
