My wife is thinking of getting into mortuary science and is also thinking of becoming a funeral director. What can she expect and what is needed to become a funeral director?

i recommend calling the state she plans to be licensed in, as some states differ on their requirements. Also, there is no longer separate degrees of funeral director and embalmer, now when you get licenesed, it is a combined degree. She will have to take all of the funeral directing and embalming classes, then take the National Board and the state licensing board exams. If you go to www.mortuaryschools.com, it has a complete listing of every mortuary school in the US. Good luck, this is a wonderful, rewarding career!

It might be best for her to check out the requirements for the particular school she is going to attend. I am not sure but it might be different based on what state you are in.

If you just want general info do a search on the net for requirements for mortuary science degrees and just check out any of the colleges and school's requirements.

http://www.bls.gov/oco/ This is a great site to get info on a particular career. It give info on general requirements, salaries and other spin off type jobs.

Tell her best of luck. :)
