I have a Mac and I need to figure my IP address. The setting of my computer says something else, the IP address given by www.whatismyIP.com gives a different IP address - which one should I use? I will use this to answer tech-support so they can figure out where I last logged in to my hotmail account before it was hacked for verification I am the actual owner. Thanks.

The IP address you see on your computer is your Internal IP address, and the IP address provided by whatismyip.com is your External IP address; This is the address the 'outside world' sees. You'll need to give tech-support your external IP address i.e. the one from whatismyip.com.

Well, it depends on what you're using to connect, such as ethernet or AirPort. In any case, you can find out in the Network section of your System Preferences. Once you select the device you're connected to, check out TCP/IP for your IP address.

Probably the one from whatsmyip.com. See if you have a router then you will have a different IP then whats on the computer.

whatsmyip should get your main IP for the internet.
