I am thinking about getting an MBA after I receive my bachelor of commerce. I am interested in a 11-month program at the Univeristy of Colorado. My parents are pretty well off and will pay the $27 000 tuition. I am concerned because I got early acceptance to University and will graduate when I am 21. Do you think MBA's are worth the extra year and money?

I don't think they are, but this is based only on limited anecdotal experience.

I've seen people at work, and one friend, get an MBA but they are no better off now than they were before, salary-wise or job-wise.

I think there's a glut of MBA's out there, and they just aren't worth what they used to be. Well, that's my opinion and experience.

I am in the same boat as you. Currently I'm getting my MBA and I'm learning a lot. I recently had the chance to use the knowledge I learned in my program to help a company I worked for on a temporary assignment. Had I not taken the class I would not have been so helpful. I do believe education is very important on every level with starting a new career or enhancing your current career. But it has been very hard for me to find a permanent position with my MBA because everyone has one now. Society is saturated with MBA graduates. I found out from my professor it is an advantage to have an emphasis or concentration in an area with MBA like I'm going for my (MBA/mkt) MBA concentration in Marketing. I also advise you to read articles concerning "Careers for MBA graduates". I normally put that in my search engine and read what comes up.

They can be. It depends on the field you're in and the company you're working for, or applying to. In a solid MBA program, you'll learn a lot.

It's sometimes better to work a couple years, then go for an MBA - job experience gives you background that no amount of classroom work can.

Good luck.
