i think the bigger issue is the age of the child the child is nearly two yewars old. she could have given the child food instead. at this age a child should be on whole milk from a cup with a lid and eating all table food.i dont think its so much she didnt cover up as the age of the child i would have complained too. a child that old needs to be handed a baggie of goldfish crackers not a breast

I actually havent heard about this so based on what I'm reading, I'd say what a load of crap. Kicking a mother off the plane for not covering up her baby while breastfeeding? Who in the heck complained enough to get her kicked off?? That is just sad, very sad. Some people have serious complexes out there.

What, now this is about children possibly seeing? Hello, simply explain to them that that is the way babies eat. End of story!

I'm not getting this though... did she take her entire shirt off or what??? Because you cant see any 'tit' as someone has mentioned while a baby is nursing. You cant see anything but an inch of flesh. This is ridiculous.

Just found the story... This is very disturbing. Seated in the last row, had her husband sitting next to her, and when she didnt want to use a blanket to cover her baby they kicked her off???? I wouldnt use one of those scratchy airline blankets either in this situation, what a crock!! No one could see her, this is discrimination pure and simple. There are laws in the US to protect against this sort of thing. I'm very glad she's filing a suit against the airlines.

I'm floored - someone thinks she should have pumped and given a bottle? Last I heard you werent even allowed to bring fluids onto a plane... everyone who has an issue with this needs to see a counselor and get to the root of this bizarre complex. Dont look if you are embarrassed by seeing a mother taking care of her child!! She couldnt have gotten more 'remote' on the plane - Oh, I know, she should have gone into the tiny little bathroom, sat down on the toilet, and fed her baby in there??? Sorry, I'll stop, I just am so tired of people having issues with breastfeeding mothers. The past 12mths have really opened my eyes to this problem (after my daughter was born and I became a nursing mother), and to an ingrained feeling that breastfeeding is somehow wrong. I'm a very modest person, I always hid in the corner whenever possible if I was nursing in public, but there were times when I just had no choice. On the bus, and my daughter woke up screaming. I could let her scream for the next 20min before our stop came up, or I could nurse her as discreetly as possible. I would have had people staring at me either way, so I decided to do the best thing for my baby.

* Gillette said she was discreetly breast-feeding her 22-month-old daughter on Oct. 13 as their flight prepared to leave Burlington International Airport. She said she was seated by the window in the next-to-last row, her husband was seated between her and the aisle and no part of her breast was showing. *

She should not have been kicked off the plane. However, they SHOULD have asked her to cover up. It is disrespectful to whip your breast out in front of everyone. But I firmly believe that a woman should be able to breastfeed anywhere, anytime. I think the best way for this problem to be solved is this: Women, if you breast feed, cover up. If they offer feeding rooms (not restrooms, would you want to eat in a restroom?) and it is all at possible, use them. That's what they are there for, and it is much more comfortable to sit and feed anyway. I may get a lot of slack for saying that, but I believe for us to get past this, there have to be sacrifices on both sides. So, use feeding rooms if you can, if you cannot cover-up.

I think it's a personal decision whether to cover up or not. I am pretty modest, so I would cover up as much as I could. Keeping in mind, in the early weeks it is important to see what the baby is doing. I have no problem with other women not covering up at all.

Breast feed is natural thing between a mother and child, but she should have cover herself if she was going to do that on the plane. Some are private and don't want see her tity and she should cover baby and her tit.

Woman should be able to feed their babies however, wherever they want to. I see woman in public all the time showing more than what you see with a breastfeeding mother. People should respect the mother and baby and look away!

I agree it's ok to nurse, but a womans breasts don't have to be displayed in front of people and children in order to feed a baby

From my understanding on this, she was sitting in a way that none of her skin was exposed and the baby was partially covered by her shirt. What was the problem?

I think she should have pumped and bottle fed the baby, not everyone in public is comfortable seeing someone breastfeeding and when one is in public they should be considerate enough to comply. If she wanted to breastfeed so badly then she should have made some other travel arrangements.
