i found out he wasnt real when i went into my parent's room and saw presents. i got all excited and was looking for which ones were mine and saw that they all said they were from Santa. Also I knew he wasnt real because it was in my mom's handwriting. i have a neice that just turned 2 and now we have to get her to think santa is real and act like he is real because we think she can understand that (she carries on conversations so we think she's ready to understand). my mom still say "ooh who'd you get that from?" and i go "santa" even though i know its her (she knows i know he isnt real). but yes i think its important for children to think santa is real atleast until they're old enough and they know he isnt. i think its just a fun holiday thing, but i know kids dont, they think he is real.

I think it's lying if you tell them it's actually true. I grew up pretending there was a Santa Claus. My parents told me there wasn't but we all liked pretending. Pretending is fun as long as everyone knows it's just a game. I just don't want to celebrate the birth of our Savior by lying to my kids. I think lying to kids is always serious, no matter what the lie is about. What puzzles me is that society perpetuates the myth and everyone conspires to lie to everyone else's kids. I just don't get it. Some people think Christmas would be no fun for kids if they didn't believe in Santa but I grew up not believing and I don't think it was any less fun. The only thing I missed out on was that horrible experience of finding out it's all a lie.

I think it is a very fun holiday thing for children and adults alike. Of course adults know, but who wouldn't like to be surprised on Christmas morning with a gift they were not expecting. Santa Claus has been a tradition for so many years, he's such a happy jolly ole soul - Whats the harm???

I never taught any of my five children to believe in Santa Claus, because I don't believe in Santa Claus. I feel that if I deliberately deceive my children, I cannot expect them to trust me on other matters. I did teach them about God, about Jesus Christ. Because we are talking about invisible entities, with an element of faith, I didn't want them to confuse the two. Such as: "Oh yes, now I'm too old to believe in Santa. I suppose I'm getting too old to believe in this God stuff too?"
Frankly I believe it is cruel to lie to one's own children. One can tell them Santa Claus stories, telling them: "This is just a fun, made-up story", and they can get lots of enjoyment out of it.

My kids believe in santa claus only because of their grandmother. I didn't want them to know about santa because that's like lying to your kids because santa is fake.

I think it is important for children to believe in Father Christmas, for me christmas was magical, (and still is), its not the most important thing in life, but belief in Father Christmas has a mostly positive effect on children
