Hey Babie Girl,
I like your question. My first thought is to spend time researching things that are Ironic. See some of the sites. Also, sticking to the definition strictly -
"1 : a pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another assumed in order to make the other's false conceptions conspicuous by adroit questioning -- called also Socratic irony
2 a : the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning b : a usually humorous or sardonic literary style or form characterized by irony c : an ironic expression or utterance
3 a (1) : incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result (2) : an event or result marked by such incongruity b : incongruity between a situation developed in a drama and the accompanying words or actions that is understood by the audience but not by the characters in the play -- called also dramatic irony, tragic irony "
So, if you can capture an action that leads to a result, and make the result incongruis then it should help. That would give you a title too!
Maybe a person in your art is at college, and has evidence of there stupidity in their hands (SAT score of 100), or something.
An artist painting a canvas, that is really ugly/awful, but your painting is awesome - realism of unreal.
My favorite is the Dead End sign on a street corner of a Cemetery.
Awe, you get the picture.

Reflections was the same brief I was given for my art exams (some 17 years ago). I also went down a similarly odd route and did people looking at their reflections in clothing shop windows... so had things like road sweepers looking in the window of a wedding dress shop or a police man looking in the window of a joke shop at a clown outfit... all cleverly lined up so the reflection on their face (and hat in the case of the police man) would fit in with the outfit on the other side of the glass. I was told the concept was good, but my art was less than :( still, at least i don't have to drawn/paint for a living... :)

Rain on your wedding day, maybe?
How about a free ride when you've already paid?
A death row pardon two minutes too late?
A black fly in your chardonnay?
A no-smoking sign on your cigarrette break?
Download the song "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette, it'll give you some ideas. Even though the ironic part about Ironic is that it's not ironic at all.

The Leap, eh?
Well my first thought is something or someone taking a leap of faith from a bad situation to something equally as bad.
