No. A shotgun is better for close quarter defense and you can be a little off target and still hit somebody especially if the barrel is shortened. Semi-auto is best, pump comes in second especially with an extended magazine. Double barrel or single barrel single shot ones are too cumbersome to reload.

Yes, with certain exceptions, just like the Swiss government requires of Swiss households.

It works for Switzerland, and Switzerland has very low crime rates, and a very low rate of accidental shooting incidents. The Swiss government also requires regular training for proficiency.

Edit: The Swiss law actually requires that each household have what Americans would consider an assault rifle.

no because the right to bear arms is a RIGHT of every American citizen NOT a responsiblility, so if a memeber of an American family chooses to own a rifle for self defence, or they don't, it's there right to choose which they do.

This would not be America if rifle owning was made MANDATORY (key word: madatory). It is a RIGHT to bear arms, not a RESPONSIBILITY to do so.

Never thought about it!!
Not a bad idea.....
Except maybe Not the bad guys?? If you HAVE a violent crime on record... no gun for you!! I bet it would help!
It would also help if the LAWS actually allowed you TO defend yourself. Here in Michigan it's ....hide if you can.
