How many unique courses are taken each high school school year in the United States?

I am from Japan and I am very curious to know.

Also is there a minimum or maximum course limit, and is your high school public or private?

At my school, you must take 6 courses per year. There are usually 4 to 5 required, depending on your grade level, and the rest are electives.
