Rythmn and Blues. It was developed so people could dance, but it has become a genre in it's own right. R n B today isn't really true to it's roots; best examples outside the obvious black blues artists are Rory Gallagher and The Rolling Stones early stuff - check out the original 'Route 66'.

Rhythm and Blues is correct.
It derives mainly from music from the early part of the 20th century played by almost exclusively black artists.
E.g. Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, John Lee Hooker and many more too numerous to list.
The music was largely shunned by white people till white artists like Elvis Presley started singing songs in a similar vein, which gave rise to Rock 'n' Roll.
Most of what we call "Rock" is derived almost directly from the style of "rhythm" music that the early artists used to perform.
