for instance, you had cuba and libya and china sitting on the Human rights committees, you had Iraq on the nuclear non-proliferation committee. the UN became a joke when the inmates started running the place.

Yes, it needs reformed. The largest reform for the UN is the leadership, followed by membership. After the membership is reconsidered, then the Security Council needs to be better appointed to countries that have the World Interest in mind.
The UN should be accountable to every country that is a member, and then there wouldn't be as much corruption.

One aspect of reform required in the U.N. is in it's role as the worlds police force. The last time the U.N. intervened in a crisis situation effectively was in the Korean war. Since then its attempts at peace keeping have been lamentable, in the former Ugoslavia for example. If a mandate is given to the U.N.to intervene between warring factions of whatever stripe, they must do so vigourously. At the moment the U.N. is little more than a cosy talking shop on security issues and appears to be a toothless lion. So there!

um....I guess if you think that drug trafficking. rape, pillaging, taking bribes, being corrupt to the core doesn't require any reform then I guess the UN doesn't need it. Personally I think the UN is corrupt to the core beyond any repair and have lost all credibility. They should be disbanded and learn from the mistakes of not only the UN, but also the league of Nations and create a better organization that will be respected. I have no respect for the UN.

no we need the UN, the only reasons its quite useless is because its given hardly any resources.
For me the biggest failure of the UN and the west was the rwandan genocide where we did F ALL. Infact the UK and France sold loadsa weapons to the government doing the killing.
UN troops were sent in but they wernt aloud to stop the killing. What the F is that all about. The only shots they fired were when local dogs were eating the remains of families.
Im ashamed that we did nothing to stop that, we have massive armies that should be there to make sure justice is done in this world, but instead we invade a stable country, that poses no threat to us at all (Iraq)
bloody disgrace.

Of course there should be reform, but the real question should be, should there be a U.N. It has to be the most useless group of people ever put together to try and get anything accomplished.

Policy without implementation.
That is the problem with the UN, they talk talk talk and do nothing. They write policy with no teeth that can be over-ridden with one vote from the five superpowers. I believe it is a defunct organisation that needs to be scrapped and replaced with a real world council that has no country with absolute power.

It would have to change it voting rules. At the moment it pointless having a vote against any country that is alined to the five so called permanent members for they will just veto any motion against their freinds. and why call it the united nations for they are anything but united, its headquarters should be in an neutreal country.
