I have asked a similar question before but didn't get a good response . My question has to do with our right to chose when we die . Did Dr. Kevorkian have the right idea ? Should we have to be put out of our misery .( If you were told you would die within 6 months) ?

Only God has the right to chose if we live or die. What Dr Kevorkian did was murder. It's not up to us to help someone out of their misery by murdering them.

We don't have the right to choose when we die. Doctors are not God and shouldn't shoulder that burden themselves anyway. Do you want that ultimate power of deciding who should live and who should die? When is someones life considered so worthless that it should be ended by themselves or others? If I was told I would die within 6 months I would do what I always do, enjoy life to its fullest everyday because it could end at any time.

You should have the choice.
You should not HAVE to be put out of misery with 6 months to live.

God gave us free will and we do with it as we please.
When a politician comes along and puts a clamp on it, then our actions are no longer subject to blessings.
The Church says "Its Wrong" (that may be - but when do we stop legislating morality and start giving alternatives... sorry - i'm ranting)

He doesn't want it - but he isn't telling us we will go to hell if we do do it.

Should a law be passed to criminalize it?
No.

Should a law be passed to make it easier?
No.

Should discussions take place to clarify when it can take place and unders which circumstances - Yes... but only discussion and only on a case by case.

No doctor should feel complelled to perform it if they do not wish to be part of it.

No doctor should be afraid of perfoming it if it is determined to be in the patients best interests.

The question has also been subject to the point of

"My grandmother is wasting away in the hospital and spending all my inheritance on pointless medical bills. If I can convince her she will be happier dead than alive knowing I wouldn't have to worry so much whether she was comfortable" (don't roll your eyes - these things have happened)

Dr. Kevorkian did have the right idea, in my opinion, but he set himself up to be greater than the laws of the land. He should've done what he could to change the laws rather than become a law breaker. What good is he doing anyone in prison? He had a good heart but he went about helping them in the wrong way.

i think we do choose whether we live or die. consider this, how many times have you heard stories of people who were told they would die within a certain amount of hour/days and b/c of their will to live either lived till old age or survived for years later? or on the other hand, what about ppl who have "died of a broken heart?" as far as euthanasia goes... if it passes into some type of law, it opens the door to other things and then where does it stop? one day we're killing the terminally ill, next we're killing old ppl and mentally challenged individuals. what next then? will we kill general undesirables and political antangonists? where does it stop?

we all have free will. all of us. if we want to take our own lives, then we are capable of doing so. if you're looking for someone to say that it's okay to do so and still be able to get into heaven, then i doubt you'll find that. any spiritual person believes that suicide is a mortal sin and totally unforgivable due to the nature of the sin. if we really want to end our lives, we'll find a way. don't let anyone fool you. don't know if this helped, but i hope it did.

I think if we wanted to be,we should have the option it us your own body,do what you want with it. If you only have 6 months and you dont wanna live the rest of your life counting down the days in misery I think you should be able to thats my view of it at least.

I don't think you should be allowed to kill yourself unless you are already dying. This is because it will cause a lot of emotion stress to all the people who love you. It is selfish.

Liberals will always make a justification for it, but the fact is that's it's going down a wrong slope.
