I grew up in Sterling Heights, off Maple (15 mile) between Ryan and Dequindre The southern part isnt as nice as it was, but still a overall nice low crime area. What part of Sterling Heights?

Not high at all. If I were still living in Detroit, I would not mind staying in Sterling Heights, Mi. I would be fine with raising my children there and sending them to S.H. schools.

Not high crime

like anywhere else in the US
there is some crime in all areas

I believe it has some of the lowest crime rates for it's size in the country.
