If i really wanted to go and fight pointless wars, i wud juts go and enlist myself. **** those politicians, i hate them all. THye say there are men of the ppl, well **** that. All they care bout is their power. I swear, if this goes down, i will die trying to kill those bastards rather than go to iraq or any other wars.

Charlie Rangel, Democrat from NY has proposed this. Did I mention he is a Democrat? He is the one who wants to send you to Iraq to die. Did I mention he is a Democrat?

Considering your age I wouldn't woory about it for now. 70% of the people are against a draft. That would make it really hard for them to pass a bill. If they did pass it whoever voted for it would probably not have a job the next time they are up for election.

On a side note, Dude whats up with all of the swearing. You can tell your PO'd without all the cussing.

Actually military service isn't bad. I was in the navy so my time was on a ship, not being shot at. I got to see over 20 countries and it really helped my ability for good employment afterwards.

Take care and don't let it bother you too much.

This as much as anything makes me realize we have no chance of winning the war against terrorists/ Islamists, the Republicans realized we needed a draft that's why they tried to go into Iraq with the bare minimum of people, and now we're seeing the result. Americans need to realize we are at the beginning of this and we are going to have to make many hard choices and if we can't come up with enough people to fight we've done the enemy's work for him.

I skimmed the answers looking for what I'm wanting to say, I don't think it was there sooo....

The purpose of this draft idea is to equitably distribute "the carnage". As it is now, the poor and lower middle class are fighting and dying in the wars of the wealthy because they are being paid to do so and volunteering for it (complete with sign-up bonuses and paid college tuition if you survive).

If the sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters of the wealthy Republicans and Democrats who sent us to war under false pretenses were the ones being sent off to die, there would have been a higher degree of deliberation about this war, its planning and aftermath.

Without having to pay any price for war, the warmongers have no reason to stop their wars.

A draft would stop this senseless war in Iraq tomorrow. Nobody would be willing to send their sons and daughters off to die for such a tragic foreign policy mistake.

If America is attacked tomorrow and attackers attempt to implement their form of government, whose responsibility is to fight them? I understand anyone not wanting to fight in an unjust war, such as the preemptive war on Iraq. However, we do have the responbility of protecting our way of life. If we are to enjoy the benefits of a government, there must be a responsibility to protect it. So, I'm with you on being against drafted into an unjust war, but not against being drafted into a just war (if indeed there is such a thing).

Try not to get yourself upset. Notice that no one is jumping on the bandwagon and endorsing his idea. Instituting a draft is very unpopular and will not happen unless this country gets into a major war. Keep in mind that part of living in any country leaves you open to military service if there is a major confrontation.

I felt the same way 40 years ago...but you know what?.. I went to Viet Nam anyways. That's the difference between you and me.
And I am a Democrat. I still hated that war and I hate this one too, politicians will not allow a draft so you need not worry the first way to end a war is to institute a draft.

Why are people surprised about what the democrats want to do? They've made none of it a secret. The good thing is that the Republicans back an all volunteer military and the Military actually prefers the all volunteer force. The Republicans will do what they can to avoid the draft scenario. If nothing else they will vote to support you. The democrats will draft you then cut the budget.

This war may seem pointless to you, but not to the Iraqi's. If it does pass, i will take your place if you are drafted and I am not, how about that?

If it does pass, i will just drop out of college and join, I can finish mental education later, and instead learn through experience now.

That's because the neo-cons want to continue this hopeless war and send even more troops to be killed or mained. That is John McCain's plan. So the dems are calling their bluff by saying that they need to reinstate the draft if they need more people.
There won't really be a draft unless we are attacked again. Then every able bodied person could have to serve.

It bothers me that they are using National Guard in Iraq. National Guard should only be used for national emergencies--not to fight in a foreign war.
