Martin Luther King was a very brave, very intelligent, very dedicated and peaceful man who simply wanted to live in a world where all people, regardless of color, were equal. He died because he was outspoken in a time when many were afraid to do the same. If he quoted Ghandi, who was also a very intelligent and peaceful man, this simply shows that his objective was equality through peace, like the great Indian leader. Both men deserve great respect and kudos for all the good they did in their lifetimes.

I notice several others have made the distinction between passivity and being non-violent. King was never passive/a pacifist although he advocated non-violent resistance of the type practiced by Gandhi. There is a wonderful book called "The Peaceable Revolution" written by Betty Schechter and published in 1963 which traces the peaceable revolution (a phrased quoted from Henry David Thoreau's "On Civil Disobedience") from Thoreau through Gandhi and up to Martin Luther King Jr. It is not an option but rather a duty on the part of all citizens to practice such.

Martin Luther King i dont thinjk was a pacifist but passively protested within the civil rights movement in contrast with malcom X who used violence
He wasn't a fraud he wasn't a spiritual leader liek Ghandi he was trying to free his people. He may have been credited for what Ghandi said but that I doubt was his intention he also used words from the bible he never directly said it was his own words. He was trying to free his people how can that be fraud

He did not believe that violence was justified, so yes he was a pacifist. He preached non-violent activism.
