You are putting yourself in danger and risking your life. I personally don't care about people who smoke because they are making a huge mistake. You are only consuming 20% of the bad chemicals you are smoking so you are not only putting yourself in danger but the people that are around you, some of which care about you! I know it can be addicting because I know people who do it but that is no excuse. If you don't smoke, bless you. Then you are making a great decision. 1 person dies every 17 seconds in the world from smoking. If that many people are dying because of smoking, imagine how many people are dying from hanging around with people that smoke.

I feel the same way. I have no sympathy for those who start smoking knowing that it is addictive, like people who smoke crack for the first time. If you didn't think you would get addicted, then you are delusional. I don't smoke and my husband doesn't smoke, so there is a great possibility that my son won't smoke. Us, as parents. are the most influential role models for our children. My mom smoked and my dad didn't, but I wonder if he did would I have turned out to be a smoker like my sister?

And for the people that continue to smoke with all the programs out there to help you quit, stop making excuses and do something good for you, your family and friends. Quit.

The only thing I agree with here is that you are right about the fact that others who don't want to smoke should not be subjected to my smoke. I smoke because I want to. It is not an addiction. I am not in denial. I like to smoke, period, no excuses or apologies. You don't have to like it as long as it doesn't affect you which I can honestly say my smoking does not adversely affect anyone else in my family, friends, or in public. I don't smoke in restaurants even if it is allowed. I don't smoke in my home because my boyfriend and my grown son don't smoke. As to fairies theory that because she and her husband don't smoke her child won't. Sorry, not necessarily so. I have smoked all my son' life. I didn't preach to him about not smoking all the while blowing smoke in his face. He decided that he did not want to smoke. I have always smoked outside so that he would not be adversely affected by second hand smoke. She had better be more concerned about her child's peer group starting at about age 13-15. That is the group who will probably determine whether or not the child smokes. In closing let me just tell you that while you have a very reasonable concern, you shouldn't just assume that everyone who smokes is weak, or addicted, or unconcerned about the people around them who don't smoke. You are wrong.

It's an addiction. And a very powerful one at that.

Incidentally, I don't smoke but everyone else in my family does. I find it absolutely disgusting.

I didn't think I would be addicted since I just occasionally did it for fun, but now I am and I enjoy it but regret it at the same time.

How naive. They are addicted. You are too young to understand addiction. I don't smoke, and I say screw you for your dumbness.
